I am a professional writer and reporter with a long history of publication and employment. Over the last decade I have researched, photographed, and written several editions of three guidebooks published by Avalon Travel: Moon Arizona and Grand Canyon (14th edition 2018), Moon Tucson (3rd edition 2018), and Moon Southwest Road Trip (1st edition 2016).

My specialties include travel writing, environmental and wildlife issues, arts and literature, and legal reporting.

I have been a freelance writer since 1995, and I have been a staff writer for three widely different publications.

Work History:

  • 2016 to Present: My office is currently located in Prescott, Arizona, where I am helping my wife care for her mother. Over the last few years I have worked on several editions of my guidebooks, written articles for and, and completed three large blog-writing projects about architects and home builders for a leading construction website. I have also finished a novel.
  • 2009 to 2016:  Tucson Reporter for Courthouse News Service,  I wrote news stories about legal cases from around the Southwest, and for several years I was responsible for daily coverage of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. I  also prepared a daily report on cases in Pima County Superior Court and Tucson Federal Court for national subscribers.
  •  2001 to 2008:  Reporter/Assistant Managing Editor/Interim Managing Editor for Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun, I covered crime, environmental and wildlife issues, travel, the arts, education, health care, recreation, and breaking news for this group of community newspapers and magazines
  • 1999 to 2001: Staff Writer, Inside Tucson Business, I covered politics, the media, environmental and wildlife issues, the arts, the U.S.-Mexico border, and other subjects for this weekly newspaper focusing on business.
